Matthew 5:13-16

Read Matthew 5:13-16, NIV
This is a pretty familiar passage of Scripture. What would you expect me to preach/teach about if you hear me read it?

Read the passage in another translation, the Message, in Matthew 5:13-16 Jesus says:
“Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.”
Recently I was asked, “What does the word disciple/discipleship mean to you?”
My answer: following and becoming like Jesus & bringing others on the journey with you.
Calvary’s Statement: Doing Life Together with Jesus

What does it mean to be really connected with other people? To be connected in community?
When I went on a trip to DC with some of you, I cleaned the car. Tom kinda made fun of me because I armorall-ed the dashboard. But. I wanted to have a clean car for my guests since I didn’t know who’d be coming on our trip to DC/Ebeneezers/Frontline. When Tom normally gets in the car, it’s a mess…when we’re really connected with people, they see the real us. They see that our car, and sometimes our lives, are a little messy. That’s when the Gospel really shines through–when we are who we are and people see Christ reflected in us.

We didn’t get much past this question this week. I hope you can make it out soon to join the discussion.
